SHADOWS OF THE FUTURE
By Mobasher Zia
(With Apologies to Sahir Ludhianvi)
Moon is shining on the still young night
Like a dream of marbles and prairies.
Stately weeping willows and stately branches
Are aerobicing like the ripe body of a woman
Horizon is slowly setting behind the ozone layer
And my psychedelic mind is imagining an affair.
But shadows of future haunt me still
At times with doubts and sometimes as surreal.
In the previous wars, honey, homes were destroyed but next time
Don’t be surprised if loneliness is burnt too!
In the previous wars, darling, humans were burnt but next time
Don’t be surprised if shadows are burnt too!
Shadows of future haunt me still …
At times with doubts and sometimes as surreal!
