I would personally consider chatting on line to be a form of cheating. Not an adulterous affair but the first step towards one. If someone feels the need to seek out female or male companionship outside the marriage by meeting strangers on line then there is a serious indicator of a problem in your relationship. There is something lacking or missing. I think any time you find yourself opening up about your life to someone who is a stranger of the opposite sex then you are taking a step towards something that is probably going to lead you down a road towards an affair. Perhaps not with the person that you are chatting with but it means you are looking for something outside the marriage. Something that you lack in life.Affairs are normally not about the sex. They are about something lacking in your either marriage or your life before marriage. They are about a need that is not being met which is usually emotional. They indicate that you need to communicate with someone because you are unable to communicate with your spouse on some level.Unfortunately, the Internet has made it easier to meet virtual strangers and become acquainted with them. This can be quite hazardous to a relationship and marriage. I think that people need to maintain self control and if there is a problem then you need to turn to your spouse and air it. Seek out counseling and save the marriage. The whole story is not only pointing out the married peoples only but the adults before marriage are having the same attitude towards internet activities.
That is my suggestion. If that means throwing out the computer then do whatever it takes to solve the problem.
