My Last Light of Hope

Every breath comes with anticipation,
Every day passes with yearning and pain,
I await you- my last light of hope,
But another day passes without you again.

The suffering is closing in on me,
I hold my hand out for you to hold,
But all I feel is the breeze of evil,
Agonising, sharp and cold.

I grope in the dark for a guiding hand,
But all I hear are quarrelling voices,
I hear the cries of the oppressed,
And the cheer of the enemy as he rejoices.

I trust you, I submit, you are my leader,
Is this not enough for you to return?
Please, my saviour, come and help us,
Save us from the fire in which the enemies burn.

I beg, I plead, I ask you to help,
And yet in my ignorance, I forget,
You are the one that is waiting for me,
You are the one I unknowingly reject.

I desperately ask for another last chance,
Realising that I have but little time,
Ducking and diving and trying to escape,
The persuasive and tempting world of crime.

Craving to see your luminous face,
My eyes shed tears of separation and longing,
They can't bear to see any more torture,
Any more waiting, any more wronging.

Please, my master, accept my love,
As unworthy and sinful as I may be,
For you are my only and last light of hope,
Rescue me from this darkness, allow me to see.
