Ajeeb shakhs tha! har eik se piyaar mangta tha
Jahaan na ho dard, essa diyaar mangta tha.

Jo mangta tha! woh dena meri bisaat na thi,
woh meri ruh ka mujh se qaraar mangta tha.

Ussay gharaz thi guloon se, na kaliyoon se zara
woh fasal-e-ranj mein fasal-e-bahar mangta tha.

Ussay talab thi, koi toot ker ussay chahe
woh haath jorr ke, ulfat hazaar mangta tha.

Ussay aziz tha duniyaa ka har buland maqaam
woh shakhs apne liye uojh-e-daar mangta tha.

Mere khaloos per shak tha ussay shayad,
wafa ki rah mein woh eitbaar mangta tha!
