How are DVD's made?



After this tour over an optical medium factory in Kazakhstan you’ll have a perfectly clear idea how the DVDs we are so used to are produced.





The process is fully automatic, the main engineer keeps an eye on it.





Optical discs are made of polycarbonate that comes in large bags.





Here they are – future DVDs.





The granules first get into the drying machine.





And then get heated till they become liquid mass.





Which gets crammed into a press-form with a stamper inside.





Stamper or matrix is a metal plate with precise information. This one is a movie which will be on a DVD in a while.





Under the temperature of 250 degrees liquid polycarbonate gets shaped into a disc. And the info on the matrix gets imprinted on it.







Workpieces with information get into a cooling machine.











Then they get covered with reflecting surface so that laser ray could read the info.





Half-finished production.





Laser test rejected one copy out of 40.





After one lot has been produced it gets painted.

Every DVD goes with a hologram.





These women prepare DVD boxes with an unbelievable speed.





Wrapping the boxes with cellophane film.







From this distribution center DVDs are delivered to the stores over Kazakhstan.
