A domain name is your or your business identity in cyber space. Only this reason is enough to establish the importance of choosing an appropriate domain name for your personal or business website. Apart from that there are multiple factors which should be consider during selecting a domain name.


1. Name should represent you or your business: A domain name is like the first impression on your visitors a relevant and appealing domain name earns visitors interest and sometimes respects.

2. Domain name should be easy to spell: Easy to spell domain names are also easy to remember if you choose a domain name which your customer find hard to spell they definitely won't remember it and you may lose repeat visits and higher chances of loss of some business activity. On the other hand easy to remember domain names not only improves the business opportunities but also they got more word of mouth referrals.

3. Generic Search Treffic: Search engines give the priorities to the domain names which contain the search term or keyword. So it becomes more important to choose your domain name closely related to what you do or offer.

4. Too Long or Too short: Long names are again hard to memorize and people find it relatively difficult to type long domain names. Too short domain name probably would fail to make sense (like mkt.net or wsq.org etc.*).
The suggested length of the domain names ranges from 5-10 letters.

5. Regional Domain names: Regional domain names like .pk or .com.pk, are very useful to find the domain names which are already taken from more popular domain extension like .com, .net or .org. But there are few things to consider first is that by using a regional domain name you sometime limit your market, it is not that your website won't show up to international audience, it is that the international visitor would consider it a specific regional business. Secondly there are chances that even if your visitors or customers remember you domain name they may forget your extension or mistakenly type other popular extension (.com instead of .com.pk) and you may lose some visitors.
